Fire Division Overview

The CSFS Boulder District works with federal, state and local agencies in Boulder and Gilpin counties to provide for wildfire protection of people and the environment. District program areas include wildland fire training and certification and assisting rural fire departments in providing fire apparatus, inspections, and equipment. Information on specific training programs is available at the Boulder County Sheriff's wildland fire training site.

We work cooperatively with fire departments to provide personnel and fire equipment to the national interagency fire suppression effort. CSFS districts provide coordination and support for local wildfire initial and extended attack.

District personnel also work with private landowners and land management agencies to provide technical assistance for fire mitigation thinning and fuel reduction programs. We assist homeowner groups and subdivisions in wildfire pre-planning activities and provide information and education support through the Firewise program.
