Steamboat Springs District -
Fire Protection

Fire Protection Programs

The Colorado State Forest Service, through an agreement with the US Forest Service, can obtain excess military vehicles. Our shop in Fort Collins converts these vehicles into wildland fire fighting trucks. These trucks are made available to fire departments for a minimal cost for wildland fire suppression. Twelve of these vehicles have been placed in the three counties of the Steamboat Springs District:

  • Moffat County - 5 vehicles
  • Routt County - 4 vehicles
  • Jackson County - 3 vehicles

The Colorado State Forest Service also assists fire department, with training as well as ordering fire equipment (handtools, personal protective equipment, hose, etc.) at reduced prices.
