Steamboat Springs District -
Bark Beetle Risk

Routt and Jackson Counties are currently experiencing epidemic levels of bark beetle activity. The beetles of concern are spruce & mountain pine beetle.

Current Situation (Summer, 2006):

Both spruce and mountain pine beetles are currently flying. As a result, landowners should focus on identifying infested trees. If infested trees are identified, those trees should be treated to reduce further infestation. If you are at risk, begin considering preventative spraying next spring.
