Steamboat Springs District -
Seedling Tree Program

The CSFS tree program enables farmers, ranchers, and rural landowners to obtain trees at nominal cost. The program's aim is to encourage landowners to plant effective windbarriers to protect buildings, cropland and feedlots, to aid erosion control, wildlife habitat, reforestation, and Christmas tree plantations.

To participate, landowners must have at least two acres of land and must agree not to use the trees for ornamental or landscaping purposes. These trees cannot be resold as living plants (the roots must be severed). Contact your local nursery for your ornamental needs.

Order forms are available in mid-October with tree delivery during the first part of May. Tree ordering and delivery is done through local Soil Conservation District (SCD) offices.

If your property is in Routt, Moffat or Jackson county and you would like to be placed on the mailing list email the CSFS or contact the local SCD:

  • Routt SCD: (970) 879-3225
  • Moffat SCD: (970) 824-8314
  • Jackson SCD: (970) 723-4724

For more information visit the CSFS Nursery website.
