Promoting public understanding of the role and value of Colorado’s forests and other natural resources is critical to the mission of the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS). The agency is non-regulatory – our accomplishments proceed from our educational approach.

Educators

Project Learning Tree

Project Learning Tree® (PLT) is an award winning, multi-disciplinary environmental education program for educators and students in PreK-grade 12. PLT is one of the most widely used environmental education programs inside and outside the United States.

CSFS delivers the program to an average of 500 teachers per year in workshops around the state – this translates into approximately 1500 students reached per year.

Fire Ecology Institute

Since 2001, CSFS annually has held a Fire Ecology Institute in various regions of the state. This weeklong intensive training institute for teachers and natural resource professionals has become a model for other states.

Youth

Camp Rocky

Camp Rocky is a week long, residential camp near Divide, Colorado for those who have finished 8th grade through 19 year old. The camp is in July every year and is for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and is interested in natural resources. Camp Rocky staff, made up of resource professionals from around the state, help participants learn about their environment, while working in teams and making new friends.
