Q5. What is the State Land Board's (SLB) role on the State Forest?

A. Although the Colorado State Forest Service and the Colorado Division of Parks & Outdoor Recreation provide most of the onsite management for the Forest, the Forest is a state trust property administered by the SLB.

The Land Board is a five person board charged with managing Colorado's State Trust Lands. The Board is a trustee for state trust lands and has a fudiciary responsibility to its beneficiaries - in the case of the School Trust, the school kids of Colorado. The Land Board has a state-wide staff of 29.

The Colorado State Forest is administered from the Northwest District Office of the SLB in Craig Colorado. For more information visit the SLB website.

Q6. Can I cut a Christmas Tree on the State Forest?

A. Sorry, the State Forest does not have any accessible Chirstmas Tree areas this year.

The US Forest Service sells U-cut Christmas Tree Permits. Permits are $10.00 and are also available at the Corkle's mini-mart/Texaco Station in Walden. For more information contact your local NSFS office or visit the North Park Ranger District in Walden. They're open from 7:30am to 4:30pm (Mon-Fri) and can be reached at (970) 723-8204.
