COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Residents of the Colorado Springs area and southern Front Range who are dealing with snow-damaged trees after this week’s snowstorm may now be considering actions to protect and repair them.
The Genesee Foundation – one of only nine communities nationally that have been engaged in the Firewise Communities/USA® national program since its inception in 2002 – was recently recognized for taking ongoing actions in preparing homes for the threat of wildfire.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado landowners who want to protect environmentally valuable private forest areas that could be threatened by development or conversion to other uses have the opportunity to submit proposals to protect their forestlands.
LA JUNTA, Colo. – The Bent’s Old Fort and Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Sites’ annual Firewise education event took place on Saturday, March 11. With assistance from Boy Scout Troop 113 from Centennial, Colo., park staff hauled pre-cut trees to a nearby road for splitting as a part of the site’s firewood collection project.
The Colorado State Forest Service and Northwest Colorado District of the Bureau of Land Management have entered into an agreement to address beetle-killed timber on BLM-managed public lands in Grand County, which are adjacent to state and/or private lands where similar CSFS-administered management will occur.

ROCKY FORD, Colo. – Phyllis Adkins, Rocky Ford’s Tree Board chairwoman and “community tree advocate extraordinaire,” has been named 2016 “Partner of the Year” by the Colorado State Forest Service for her lead role in local community forestry efforts and success in beautifying Rocky Ford through tree planting and care efforts.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Over the last seven years, the number of dead standing trees in Colorado forests increased almost 30 percent, to an estimated 834 million trees – or nearly one in every 14 standing trees.
