The Colorado State Forest Service provides guidance, funding and other resources to help communities manage their trees.

Trees in Your Community

Trees are important to all communities in Colorado. Whether you live on the Eastern Plains, in a mountain town, in a forested subdivision or in the Denver metropolitan area, trees have an impact on your community and your life. Trees provide so many benefits!

  • Shade in our parks and backyards
  • Clean air and water
  • Lower heating and cooling costs
  • Economic sustainability by increasing property values
  • Aesthetic beauty and color
  • Habitat for wildlife

However, trees can become liabilities if they are not properly cared for and maintained. Natural disasters are not uncommon to Colorado, as we experienced in previous years when wildfires raced throughout our forests, subdivisions and communities. But natural disasters are not limited to wildfires. Colorado has been beset by hail, tornadoes, wind storms, snow storms, and insect and disease outbreaks. All of these adversities take a toll on the trees within our communities.

Managing forests in our communities enhances the benefits and reduces the liabilities.
