The Colorado State Forest Service is a lead agency in the San Luis Valley that provides wildfire education and mitigation assistance to private landowners. The Alamosa District offers technical assistance and outreach related to home and community protection from wildfires.

Wildfire Education

The Alamosa District has a FireWise kiosk available for display. Call our office at (719) 587-0915 to see where it is currently being housed.

Wildfire Training

Valley Fire Departments offer Incident Command System (ICS) classes periodically.

Trinidad State Junior College, Valley Campus, 1011 Main, Alamosa, offers fire science classes and credits through the Wildfire Academy. Call (800) 411-8382 or (719) 589-7000.

Adams State University also offers classes.

Individual county offices of Emergency Management host ICS classes.

The Colorado Wildland Fire & Incident Management Academy offers classes each winter (January) and each summer (June) at various locations in Colorado. Requirements and nomination forms are required for all classes.
