DENVER – With wildfires already burning homes in Colorado this spring, more than three-quarters of the state in drought conditions and a low snowpack, the possibility of a dangerous wildfire season looms in the minds of many residents.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As part of a budding partnership between the two organizations, the Colorado State Forest Service has received a donation from the Girl Scouts of Colorado to provide 7,500 seedling trees to be used for reforestation efforts in Colorado.
DENVER – Next Saturday, May 5, is “Wildfire Preparedness Day” in Colorado – a day when communities across the state come together to prepare for wildfires and take actions to reduce their wildfire risk.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – This Friday, the Colorado State University community and Fort Collins residents can volunteer to plant trees on campus in celebration of Arbor Day, while at the same time learning about an effective way to prepare for the coming of emerald ash borer (EAB) – an invasive, highly destructive tree pest.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With wildfires burning homes and causing evacuations throughout Colorado this week – in addition to statewide snowpack levels being below normal, with much of southern Colorado under extreme drought conditions – the Colorado State Forest Service wants to remind homeowners living in the wildland-urban interface to prepare for wildfires before they arrive.
Many residents of the Front Range corridor will be dealing with storm-damaged trees after Monday’s windstorm, and may soon be considering actions to protect and repair them.
BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Many Coloradans plant trees in the spring because it’s the best time of year to get new trees established, and communities around the state will be hosting plantings this week to recognize Colorado’s Arbor Day – which this year falls on April 20.
DOLORES, Colo. – Later this month, state and federal experts will hold two workshops focusing on helping landowners with the identification and management of bark beetles and other tree-killing insects in southwest Colorado. “Beetles in Our Forest” is a free one-day workshop to be offered back-to-back on April 17 and 18 near Dolores.
LYONS, Colo. – State officials have confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer (EAB) – an invasive, highly destructive tree pest – in the Town of Lyons in northern Boulder County.
BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Late winter, from mid-February through early March, is the best time to prune most trees. Trees are still dormant at this time of year and, unlike in early winter, wound closure will be rapid if pruning occurs just prior to the time new growth emerges.
