MONTROSE — Earlier this month, staff from the CSFS Montrose Field Office were able to get into the holiday spirit – while getting their hands (and perhaps their hearts) sappy – cutting piñon pine trees that would otherwise be considered a wildfire hazard.
DENVER – This year’s State Capitol holiday tree, themed the “Gold Star Tree of Honor,” again pays tribute to the more than 350 Colorado military service members lost in the global war on terror since Sept. 11, 2001, as well as their families.
GRANBY, Colo. – The Colorado State Forest Service and Kremmling Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management have completed a project to remove beetle-killed trees and reduce wildfire risk, in what is the first cross-boundary project using the Good Neighbor Authority to the fullest extent in Grand County.

GRANBY, Colo. – The Golf Course Fire, despite causing the evacuation of 300 homes as it burned west of Grand Lake late last week, fortunately did not result in the loss of life or structures. Firefighters and emergency responders ensured that the 20-acre fire was halted and did not damage homes – and also made clear that a key reason they were able to protect the community was recent forest management work intended to reduce wildfire risk.
DURANGO, Colo. – With wildfires burning forestland and evacuating residents in locations around the state, many Coloradans want to know what they can do to help. One way to have a positive impact on affected forests and communities is through the replanting of trees, which is the goal of the donor-driven Restoring Colorado’s Forests Fund.
SUPERIOR, Colo. – State officials have confirmed the presence of emerald ash borer (EAB) – an invasive, highly destructive tree pest – in the Town of Superior in southeast Boulder County. This new detection is still just within a quarantine area established to try and prevent the human-assisted spread of EAB.
