During their annual hearing before the Colorado General Assembly, State Forester Matthew McCombs and Regional Forester Frank Beum announced a report detailing the results of the 2021 aerial detection survey led by the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region, and Colorado State Forest Service.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day, when the residents of Nebraska planted more than a million trees on April 10, 1872, to celebrate the first tree planter’s holiday.
The Colorado State Forest Service published its annual forest health report this week, highlighting the current conditions of forests across Colorado and how the agency is improving the health of the state’s forests in the face of persistent drought and historic wildfires.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Recent wintry weather across parts of Colorado is a reminder that colder months are ahead and freezing temperatures can occur quickly in the fall.
Colorado evergreens shed their older, interior needles as part of an annual growth cycle. Needles on the lower portions of the crown or closest to the trunk are most commonly shed, but trees stressed due to drought or root damage may shed more needles to keep the tree in balance with its root system.
Based out of the CSFS State Forest Field Office in Gould, Blair Rynearson will steward about 58,000 acres of state trust forestland and a facility with buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.
